Case Study

Draken

Draken stands as a premier operator specialising in adversary training. With decades of experience in the field, the company delivers highly realistic scenarios that serve as rigorous tests for both existing and emerging military hardware, as well as the capabilities of military personnel to fend off attacks. This expertise has positioned Draken as a key participant in major international training exercises, providing support to over 20 nations annually.

Operating from its headquarters at Bournemouth’s Aviation Park East, Draken's distinctive dark blue Falcon 20 jets have graced the skies above the South Coast for many years. Equipped with advanced electronic warfare systems, these aircraft have been integral to the UK and allied military training programs since the company’s inception as FR Aviation in 1985.

Formerly a part of Cobham Plc, Draken International acquired the company in 2020, now under the umbrella of the dynamic Tactical Opportunities portfolio at the US investment firm Blackstone. Draken’s UK operations serve as the cornerstone of its global activities, employing over 500 personnel in the country, with the majority based in and around the Bournemouth area.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing STEM subjects within the community, Draken invests significantly in research and development. The company takes a leading role in trials aimed at integrating synthetic and live training methods and exploring the potential applications of unmanned aerial vehicles in various specialised missions and adversary roles.
